Westinghouse Savannah River Company (WSRC), management and operating
contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy's Savannah River Site
(SRS) near Aiken, South Carolina. The purpose of this notice is to
determine public interest in the possible partnering with the SRS and
other parties for prototyping and eventual manufacture for commercial
sale of a technology called the Hydrogen Storage Device. This
partnering may be in the form of a license, a Cooperative Research and
Development Agreement, a joint proposal for government-sponsored
funding opportunities, or other appropriate arrangements. Developed at
SRS, this technology is a device and methodology for using metal
hydrides to absorb, store, and desorb hydrogen. The metal hydride
storage system is safe, compact, reliable, and efficient. The
technology has potential applications in various markets, including
transportation, remote and alternate energy storage, and hydrogen
storage and transport. Respondents will be provided with a technical
brief and instructions for preparing and submitting a plan for pursuing
technology development. Responses to this notice must be received by
November 22, 1997. Technology development plans must be submitted no
