Holton, Purchasing Specialist via FAX (303) 369-1207 Leading Edge Automated Sealing Equipment The Postal Service is looking for vendors interested in furnishing a minimum of 10 each, Leading Edge Automated Sealing Equipment. The equipment will place small adhesive wafer tabs on the right edge of folded or open mailpieces. The leading edge (right edge) is defined as the side of the mailpiece to the right of the address when the address is in the horizontal orientation. This equipment must process mail of mixed origin and makeup, in random order, in small quantities, without stopping or adjustments to compensate for different mail types. The purpose of sealing or tabbing the leading edge is to reduce damage to mail that is processed in high speed automated Optical Character Reader (OCR) and Bar Code Sorter (BCS) equipment. Open edges are known to tear, "catch air" or be folded back when fed into high speed equipment. Testing has demonstrated reduced damage to mail that has open edges sealed or tabbed. The machine(s) will seal or tab mailpieces closed according to the following criteria. Equipment must process mixed, letter size mailpieces (one ounce) with a minimum speed of 8,000 pieces per hour. Equipment must process mixed, untabbed, double-folded, tri-folded, open top or bottom, mailpieces formed from all types of paper including glossy, coated, and uncoated paper with basis weights greater than14lb. Equipment must process (flat) mail, with maximum dimensions of 9" high by 12" wide by 3/16" thick. Equipment will place single and/or double adhesive, sealing tab(s), depending on the size of the mailpiece, on the leading edge of mailpieces. Equipment must be capable of applying a translucent or clear tab (minimum size of approximately 1" by 1-1/4" (inch) square or oval). Equipment input and output conveyor/stacker must hold a minimum of 3 feet of mail (measured on edge). Vendors capable of providing a product, as described, are invited to submit complete information, description, pricing and brochures about their product. The sole purpose of this synopsis is to identify prospective SOURCES and does not commit the USPS to issue a solicitation or make an award.
