Lockheed Martin Idaho Technologies Company (LMITCO) is requesting an expression of interest for supplying low-cost high-performance magnetic gradiometers to LMITCO. The total number to be purchased has not been finalized but should be in excess of 100. The general specification requirements for the magnetic gradiometers are: (1) The housing shall be a maximum 14 in. long by 2 in. diameter aluminum tube. (2) Power Input (3 pins) +12 VDC, -12 VDC, and ground. (3) Signal Output (2 pins) bipolar ( ) 5 VDC and ground. (4) Magnetometer Range 100,000 nT. (5) Gradiometer Range: 30,000 nT/m at full scale output (absolute gradient dependent on sensor spacing). (6) Gradiometer Noise < 3 nT/m rms between 0.1 -- 30 Hz and < 2 nT/m rms between 0.1 -- 3 Hz. (7) Output Impedance 100 Ohm. (8) Accuracy < 0.1 % between 20,000 nT/m. (9) Linearity < 0.05 % between 20,000 nT/m. (10) The sensor gradient output shall not drift more than +/- 3 nT/m over a period of 2 minutes when held in a static gradient field. (11) A minimum 2 mm aluminum housing with end closures shall be provided for RF shielding. (12) A method to null approximately 95% of the static background magnetic gradient field shall be provided. One acceptable method would be to use a potentiometer adjustment. The supplier shall be responsible for designing, and fabricating the gradiometer.
