COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 9,1997 PSA#192610 -- UNDERSEA WEAPON AND MINES WORKING GROUP IR&D REVIEW REQUEST Nancy
J. Gunderson (SEA02611) (703) 602-7706 The Program Executive Office for
Undersea Warfare (PEO(USW)), Undersea Weapons Program Office (PMS404),
Arlington, VA, extends an invitation to industry to provide a review
of technology development associated with Torpedo technologies
(Guidance and Control, Propulsion, Radiated Noise Reduction,
Hydrodynamics, and Warhead). In addition, Mine Weapon technologies
which enhance lethality, mine control and mine field connectivity are
of interest. This review is being conducted in support of Undersea
Weapons and Mines Working Group (UWWG) of the Submarine Payload
Integrated Product Team (SIPT). The UWWG would like to give Industry
the opportunity to provide related briefings on any IR&D efforts they
believe are relevant to this working group. Please notify Mr. Pete
Perry by 26 September 1997, in writing and via fax, of your desire to
provide a briefing (limited to 20 minutes per topic), and a one page
synopsis of your brief. Phone number is 703 604-6132, ext. 311, Fax is
703 604-4678. After review of the one page summaries, contractors may
be invited to present their concept to the Undersea Weapons Working
Group for consideration in future Weapons Technology Development.
Contractors responding to this announcement and providing a
presentation will not be reimbursed for any associated costs nor will
the Government be obligated to enter into a contract following the
presentations. The Working Group is especially interested in weapons
technologies leading to improved probability of kill and reduce
probability of counterkill, life cycle cost reduction, and expansion or
enhancement of the torpedo mission capabilities. In addition,
innovative, non-OTTO fueled propulsion ideas, which result in lower
life cycle cost, are of special interest to the group. The long term
focus of these technologies is a torpedo one-half the length and weight
of the current heavy weight torpedo which is at least as effective as
the current weapons. The working group is charged with evaluating
ongoing efforts and recommending to the SIPT the relative priorities of
these programs, within the Submarine Technology program. The Undersea
Weapons and Mine Working Group is responsible for recommending science
and technology, in addition to research and development programmatic
priorities to the SPIPT and ultimately to Submarine Warfare sponsor
