COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 17,1997 PSA#1889Brookhaven National Laboratory, Division of Contracts and Procurement,
Building 355, Upton, NY 11973 A -- LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS AS A HEAVY VEHICLE FUEL SOL RFP No. 723418
POC John C. Small, Sr., Contracts Specialist, (516) 344-2141. The
Department of Energy has interest in further development of liquefied
natural gas as a fuel for heavy vehicles. As such, Department of
Energy/Brookhaven National Laboratory plans to issue a Request for
Proposal on this subject. These proposals can address all aspects of
liquefied natural gas technologies including production, storage,
delivery and end-use. The range of these proposals may cover
feasibility and laboratory verification studies up to actual field
tests. Successful submissions will need to clearly identify the
cost/performance benefits of their proposed approach over existing
technologies. Interest in LNG production is limited to small scale
production facilities from either remote, unconventional or pipeline
sources. Storage proposals from LNG tank manufacturers are being
requested in the areas of reducing tank costs, tank design improvements
and tank certification testing. LNG delivery proposals should focus on
the questions of converting liquefied natural gas to high pressure
compressed natural gas. This process, which is commonly referred to as
(LCNG), has applications in the design of natural gas refueling
stations and in the design of onboard fuel delivery systems. Advances
in fuel delivery are required for the next generation of natural gas
vehicles that take advantage of high pressure direct (HPD) injection
techniques to achieve better fuel economy and less emissions. One
particular need is the development of a reliable/cost effective onboard
cryogenic pump to supply high pressure natural gas to the engine's fuel
injectors. End-use proposals of interest include but are not limited
to, novel market strategies and engineering cost comparisons between
small scale LNG and LNG syngas production techniques. Partnerships and
cost sharing are encouraged. Multiple awards are anticipated and this
effort is budgeted at $1.6 million dollars. Estimated start date for
these projects is January, 1998. A Request for Proposal for the above
is available by written request only; telephone request will not be
honored. Send your request by mail to Brookhaven National Laboratory,
Building 355, Upton, NY 11973-5000, Attn: J.C. Small. Send your e-mail
request to small@bnl.gov. All responses must be received within thirty
(30) days of the publication date of this announcement. (0196) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0004 19970717\A-0004.SOL)
