This Request for Proposal (RFP)is for a Single Box Universal Density Cotton Bale Press with a bale pressing capacity of at least 12 bales per hour. A low bale -per hour capacity will meet the USDA's bale pressing requirements. Available space in the gin building is limited, therefore, a compact press of the single-box variety is preferred in order to simplify installation. Head space above the steel-deck floor in the gin building is limted to 23 feet, and the distance from the steel floor down to the lower concrete floor in the basement is 8 feet. An existing ram pit in the concrete floor has floor dimensions of 5 x 5 feet, and is approximately 8 feet deep. The following optional accessories and services will be requested: (1) A hydraulic pumping system capable of producing the ram pressure required to generate at least 750,000 pounds pressing force in the press box and at a rate capable of pressing twelve 480 pound bales of cotton per hour; (2) a compelte electrical control system; (3) a bale handlingsystem; (4) installation of the mechanical and hydraulic components of the basic system and any optional items purchased; (5) all electrical wiring required to complete the pressing system. This cotton bale press is to be delivered F.O.B. Destination to the USDA, ARS, Cotton Production & Processing Research Unit in Lobbock, Texas. The RFP to be issued o/a 06/30/97.
