39 -- AUTOMATIC AIRLINE ASSIGNMNET SYSTEM DUE 072197 POC Contracting Officer, Franklin Miles, 703.280.7812, Contact Point, Tammi Robinson, FAX 703.280.8412 The United States Postal Service is seeking sources for an Automatic Airline Assignment (AAA) system for the express purpose of scheduling mail reservations on commercial airlines. Systems will be located in Airport Mail Facilities / Airport Mail Centers and will need to have the ability to scan, weigh, make flight reservations and apply a label to individual trays and tubs in an automated environment. Only companies that have installed equipment that performs the above mentioned tasks for the USPS and for other companies shall be considered for this competition. Additionally, a competitive test and evaluation will occur 30 days after the USPS notifies successful bidders that they have been selected for the competitive test and evaluation phase of this contract award cycle. Interested parties should contact USPS Purchasing and Materials, 8403 Lee Highway, Merrifield, Virginia 22082. Successful applicants will develop and present a proposal for one AAA system for testing as specified by a statement of work and related test plan that will be supplied by USPS Engineering. Copies of the AAA statement of work will be available for review to interested parties. Each successful applicant will be required to build and present a single system for testing and evaluation. All test units will be competitvely tested and the contract shall be awarded to the most successful system. There will be a possible order of fifty (50) such systems upon contract award. A contract for construction and installation of a variant of the above mentioned system will also be awarded and installed in P&DC facilities. The variant will have the addition of a sleever, (@ the input end), and a bander (@ the output end). The USPS is not obligated to award a contract as a result of this synopsis.
