Acquisition of an inland river style work/layout barge for use in the
U.S. Army Corps of Engineer's Maintenance and Repair Missions on the
Inland River Systems. The vessel is approximately 230-feet long,
68-feet wide and 12-feet deep. The vessel is of all steel, welded
construction. The vessel shall have a work shop with overhead bridge
crane, shore power electrical systems, fuel oil, waste oil and potable
water storage tanks, and necessary support systems. The vessel will be
designed, built and classed to American Bureau of Shipping rules for
Steel Vessels on Rivers and Intracoastal Waterways. A full spectrum of
testing to prove the design and engineering concepts is required. The
solicitation has been formatted as "Design and Build" type based upon
a Concept Design prepared by the Marine Design Center. This contract
will utilize the Marine Design Center's three phase contracting
methodology. Liquidated Damages are included in the contract and
bonding is required. The Standard Industrial Classification Code is
3731 and the Size Standard is 1000 employees. The solicitation will be
issued on (or about) 1 July 1997. Interested firms may obtain a
solicitation package by submitting a check in the amount of $50.00,
payable to "USAED FAO NORFOLK" to the address above. Company checks
must include the firm's federal tax identification number. Personal
checks must contain the individual's Social Security Number. All
requests must be in writing and include a complete street address,
