COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 6,1997 PSA#1861

42d Contracting Squadron/LGC, 50 Lemay Plaza South, Bldg 804, Maxwell AFB, AL 36112-6334

70 -- HARDWARE/SOFTWARE POC Mary Lou Crook Tel: 334-953-2560 FAX 334-953-2198 The Maxwell Air Force Base Contracting Office is seeking to identify vendors that can provide the following: (1) 1 Each, Management Server w/Distributed Processing. The Management server is the workflow server for the Windows NT-based document conversion system. This system is workflow based and utilizes an ODBC compliant relational database for its queue management. Additional operations can be easily added to the document conversion process by interfacing with the database. (2) 1 Each, Midrange Client Software. The Scanning station is based on Pixel Translations' ISIS~ (Image and Scanner Interface Specification), the industry standard interface for high performance scanners. There are over 100 scanners and leading scanner controller boards that are supported by this standard. The user interface provides an intuitive means for creating batches and adjusting properties for scanner, batch, or page. The developed user interface also provides a means by which an operator can ensure the quality of the scan prior to committing the batch for processing. This system utilizes an internal pre-engineered document conversion workflow system. These re-useable subsystems allow for the automation of document workflow for a wide variety of document types and document quality. The Scanning client is broken out into three categories, Low Throughput, Mid Range, and Production client. The Midrange client supports scanners such as Bell & Howell 6338, Ricoh IS 520, and Fujitsu. (3) 8 Each, OCR Processors. The processor software features leading omnifont OCR for all machine printed documents including multi-generation photocopies, laser print, typeset print, dot -matrix, and fax documents with fonts as low as 5 6 point. The OCR station performs image conversion functions distributed to computers across a network. OCR processing is very CPU intensive and like image enhancement the software system employs distributed technology to incorporate redundancy and maximize throughput. The user interface provides screens to review the OCR processing status. OCR processing errors are automatically routed to an Exception Handler workstation for operator review and control. The OCR subsystem is highly scalable due to its distributed nature. To increase throughput, additional OCR ~tAtion.~ need to be added. (4) 1 Each, Filer. The Filer functions both as an indexing station and as a Quality Control (QC) Station. When a batch is complete, it will appear in a filer's in-box. An operator will now verify the quality of processing. Using drag-n-drop techniques, an operator can re-submit that batch for further processing with new properties or file the batch in the storage metaphor. Structured indexing is easily accomplished with customized forms. The system has been designed to be enlarged when needed. As in OCR and Image Enhancement operation, the Filer is designed as a distributed processing application, making it very scalable. (5) 1 Each, Exporter. The Export is the interface between the conversion system and the back-end text database, Excalibur EFS. After the document conversion process is completed, the exporter prepares the image and text of the document for full text indexing and submits to the indexing engine. Since the indexing process differs for different full -text systems, the exporter is unique to the back-end full text system. Currently supported full text system is Excalibur EFS. (6) 500 XL Power Loader. The 500XL Power Loader is batch import module for the Mekel 500XL Scanning system with Amitec Turbo-scan software. The batch import module ingests group of Tiffimages into workflow automatically. (7) 1 Each, Microsoft SQL Server v6.5 (5 user). Microsoft SQL Server 6.5 is a scaleable, high performance relational database management system for Windows NT Server-based systems. Designed to meet the requirements of distributed client-server computing7 SQL Server 6.5 is tightly integrated with the Microsoft BackOffice family of servers to enable organizations to improve decision making and streamline business processes. (8) On site installation and integration of the items will be required. Vendors capable of providing a product with the salient characteristics, and mandatory specifications as stated above are invited to submit in writing a substantial statement clearly demonstrating comparable quality of the product offered, substantiated by technical data brochures, hardware/software specifications, pricing and GSA Schedule Contract Number (if applicable). Interested parties must respond to this notice in writing within 15 calendar days from the date of this publication. THIS IS A REQUEST FOR PRODUCT INFORMATION ONLY! This is not request for proposal (RFP). No contract award will be made on the basis of responses received; however, information will be used in assessment of capable sources. The Government does not intend to pay for information received. Requests for copies of a solicitation will not be honored or acknowledged. (0155)
