necessary labor, materials, and equipment for complete construction of
the work in accordance with the contract drawings. The basic scope of
work includes miscellaneous accessibility modifications to buildings
12A, 14A, 29, 36, 100, 103, 127 and 128 at NIH, Bethesda, Maryland and
Poolesville, Maryland to meet accessibility requirements set forth by
the Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards (UFAS). The following
items are tasks involved: 1.Removal of existing toilet fixtures and
drinking fountains, and replacement of new accessible toilet fixtures
and drinking fountains. 2.Removal and capping of the concealed wasted
and chill water supply. 3.Installation of electrical door operations,
doors, frames and hardware. 4.Installation of new lead free water
distribution system to the new toilet fixtures and drinking fountains,
including new vertical and horizontal risers, valves, equipment
accessories, and piping materials, core rilling through existing floor
slabs for new pipe penetrations, and providing waterproofing and
fireproofing sealants at the penetrations. 5.Connecting new waste pipes
from the new toilet fixtures and drinking fountains to existing waste
pipes. 6.Installation of new accessible drinking fountains adjacent to
elevator lobbies to comply with ADA requirements and to meet code
standards. 7.Modifications of existing drinking fountain alcoves to
accommodate furring/pipe chases for new piping, masonry walls both
sides of the alcove opening. 8.Installation of new finishes on
ceilings, floors, and walls in each toilet room. 9.Installation of new
toilet partitions and accessories. 10.Installation of electrical light
fixtures, elevator operators fire alarm system. Contract performance
period will be 190 calendar days from Notice to Proceed. The magnitude
of this fixed-price construction contract is estimated to be between
$250,000.00 and $500,000.00. Plans and specifications will be available
on or about June 21, 1997 for a cost of $70.00 per set. Payment must be
in the form of Cashier's check, Money Order or Certifed check only.
Checks shall be made payable to the National Institutes of Health. This
Standard Industry Code(SIC) for this project is (1542). This is a
metric job. Plans and Specifications can be pick-up from the Bid
Custodian, 9000 Rockville Pike, Building 13 Room G-800, Bethesda,
Maryland at a non-refundable cost of $70.00. A letter on company
letterhead must be enclosed indicating the address to which all agenda
and communicatins should be trasmitted. Request for the IFB must cite
the IFB No 263-97-B(CD)-0241. Telephone request will not be accepted.
The Pre-Bid Conference/ Site Visit will be held on July 9, 1997, 1:00
p.m. room 117 in Building 30.Bid will be due July 22, 1997, at 2:00
p.m.. Further information concerning the bid opening will be noted in
the IFB. NOTE: This project is a total small business set-aside. This
