Lakehurst, NJ 08733-5083. 17 -- BARREL ASSY KIT SOL N68335-97-R-0255 DUE 070997 POC June
Manganello Contract Specialist Code 213JM, (908) 323-2735. Titanium
Barrel Assembly Kits, basic quantity 7 each, option year quantities-
year 1 (4 each), year 2 (2 each) and year 3 (5 each) with each kit to
include the following items: Titanium barrel (2 each) with blanking
plate (2 each); inconel screw (24 each) with washer ( 24 each); inconel
pins (16 each) with washer (48 each) & nut (16 each); inconel screw (20
each) without washer; inconel stud (4 each) with nut (4 each). The
contractor shall test one unit to ensure form, fit and functional
testing prior to release for production. The contractor will have to
possess extensive knowledge of and prior experience with machining of
titanium alloys because this material is extremely difficult to
machine. The critical manufacturing processes to finish machining are
heat treating, extruding, and/or forging. Since the statement of work
only specifies the required mechanical properties of the finished part,
and not any particular method of accomplishing these processes,
susscessful manufacture will be highly dependent on the contractor's
knowledge of and prior experience with these specialized difficult
processes. Material Description: Titanium alloy, 3AL-8V-6Cr-4Mo4Zr.
Furnished in the solution treated and aged condition, minimum yield
strength is 140 KSI at 300 degree F, minimum fracture toughness is 85
KSI IN at 300 degrees F. Geometry description: Barrel is one piece
construction, no welding is allowed. Barrel length is 75 inches. Basic
cross section is a cylinder with a 9.62 inch inside diameter and 11.12
inch outside diameter. Both ends of the barrel are flanged. Maximum
diameter of flanged ends is 14.50 inches. Length of flanged portion is
approximately 1.75 inches. At four places longitudinally along the
barrel, pairs of lugs protrude approximately 3 inches beyond the
outside of the barrel. Envelope dimensions (finished part): 14.50 X
15.75 X 75 inches. Barrel weight is approximately 400 pounds. Major
characteristics:+.001/-.001 inch tolerance required on pin hole
locations: 32 RMS finish required on radii at forward lug. Dye
penetrant and ultrasonic inspections required. Tensile, fracture
toughness and axial fatique tests are required. 10.00-8 UNS-2B internal
thread is required on aft end of barrel for installation of blanking
plate. Quality System: Manufacturers quality system must meet
requirements of ANSI/ASQC-Q9002. The point of contact is June
