Request Only. FAX 315, 330-2555 Item 0001, NON-PERSONAL SERVICES: To
furnish all labor, tools, technical data, parts, and materials
necessary to perform essential repair/maintenance on 0001AA: 321 node
Intel Paragon Computer, Model XP/S, Serial Number 301972, mfg by Intel
Corporation and 0001AB: 26 node Intel Paragon Computer, Model XP/E,
Serial Number 301922, mfg by Intel Corporation for a period not to
exceed 30Sep97. Provide necessary remedial repairs (known repairs
consist of, seven (7) failed nodes and three (3) bad drives. Three (3)
power supplies have indicated marginal outputs. They may or may not
need to be replaced. The current operating system is 4.1.0, which needs
to upgraded to the most recent version of 4.1.2.1. Normal response
following a request for remedial repair shall be within 24 hours after
notification that the equipment is inoperative or otherwise in need of
repair. Provide all labor, travel, and parts determined necessary to
maintain the equipment in good operating condition during the specified
period of coverage (Jun 97-30Sep97). Replacement parts shall be new or
equivalent. Contractor services shall be required to be performed at
the physical location of the equipment, Rome Laboratory, except that
provisions should be made for factory repair of individual components,
assemblies, or subassemblies of the end item equipment, it the
discrepancies are such that local repair of the applicable item can be
accomplished. Factory repair will be accomplished at no additional
cost to the government. Qty 4 months -- FOB Destination. Sole source
acquisition from manufacturer, Intel Corporation, 15201 N.W. Greenbrier
Parkway, Beaverton OR 97006, is planned based upon sole source
justification which states that vendor is the only manufacturer of
components for Intel massively parallel computer. Award will be made on
or about 1 Jun 97. An Ombudsman has been appointed to hear significant
concerns from offerors or potential offerors during the proposal
development phase of this acquisition. Routine questions are not
consideredto be "significant concerns" and should be communicated
directly to the Contracting Officer, E.J. Rena, Phone 315/330-7518. The
purpose of the Ombudsman is not to diminish the authority of the
contracting officer or program manager, but to communicate contractor
concerns, issues, disagreements and recommendations to the appropriate
government personnel. The Ombudsman for this acquisition is Vincent
Palmiero, Chief, Policy and Management Division at phone 315-330-7746.
When requested, the Ombudsman will maintain strict confidentiality as
to the source of the concern. The Ombudsman does not participate in
the evaluation of proposal or in the source selection process. The
Ombudsman should only be contacted with issues or problems that have
not been previously brought to the attention of the Contract
Specialist/Contracting Officer and could not be satisfactorily resolved
at that level. This procurement shall be awarded under Simplified
Acquisition Procedures (SAP) through use of a written request for
