The Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) announces the availability of a BAA for the 1998/1999 Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP) on behalf of the Department of Defense (DOD). This program will be administered through the Army Research Office, the Office of Naval Research, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization. DURIP is designed to improve the capabilities of U.S. universities to conduct research and to educate scientists and engineers in areas important to national defense by providing funds for the acquisition of research equipment. The 1998/1999 solicitation is open to proposals for equipment acquisitions that will support research and research-related education in any of the areas of interest to the four aforementioned sponsoring agencies. The BAA provides the procedures forobtaining the individual sponsors' solicitations which contain program descriptions and areas of interest of each organization. These descriptions of research interests are generally available from university offices of sponsored programs, but also through the addresses available in this BAA. It is highly recommended that potential proposers contact DOD program managers in the relevant technical areas to explore possible mutual interests before submitting proposals. Names and addresses for the agencies' program managers can be found in the descriptive material for each of the agencies.
