Affairs seeks to obtain scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repairs,
and overhaul of various off the road heavy construction equipment such
as crawlers, wheel tractors, loaders, trenchers, graders, forklifts,
gasoline, diesel and fuel-injected engines, trucks and truck tractors,
firefighting trucks, police units, sedans, vans, jeeps, etc., and
other related items, for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Fort Apache
Agency, Whiteriver, Navajo County, Arizona. The contractor shall
furnish all labor, supervision, equipment, materials, parts, tools,
transportation, supplies and facilities necessary to perform all
operations in connection with preventative maintenance, repairs and
overhaul of equipment. The preventative maintenance will include some
routine service, minor engine tune-ups, lubrication, oil and filter
change, transmission, electrical and hydraulic systems. The repairs
will consist of replacing work or broken parts, defective or nonworking
accessories, cutting and welding cracked or weakened structural
defects, painting, making adjustments in tuning and timing of engines,
etc. The overhaul will include tear-down, removal of work or defective
parts and replacement with new parts for engines, transmissions,
gearboxes, hydraulic pumps and other accessories for diesel, gasoline
and fuel-injected equipment, etc. Only new standard parts or parts of
equal quality shall be used in making repairs. When feasible, the
contractor shall repair equipment on-site as to minimize down time and
transportation costs. The contractor shall provide skilled and
experienced mechanics, welders, and transmission technicians. The
contractor must be located within a 100-mile radius of Whiteriver,
Arizona. It is anticipated the basic contract period will be for one
(1) year of performance with Government unilateral option to extend the
services up to a total of 36 months, subject to availability of funds.
Potential bidders are required to do a mandatory on-site visit to
determine the extent of the requirements. The contractor must be
available to provide maintenance and repair services 24-hours a day, 7
days a week, due to emergency situations which occur during the fire
season, except on Government holidays unless it is an emergency.
Solicitation will be available o/a 12 MAY 97. Bid opening is o/a 05 JUN
