COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 1,1997 PSA#1836PARTNERSHIP FOR THE 21ST CENTURY: GREENING FEDERAL PURCHASING
CONFERENCE Partnership for the 21st Century: Greening Federal
Purchasing July 16th and 17th, 1997 Sheraton Inner Harbor Hotel
Baltimore, Maryland Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP)
promotes federal government use of products and services that have
reduced impacts on human health and the environment. Such purchases are
required by Executive Order 12873, Federal Acquisition, Recycling, and
Waste Prevention. The Executive Order also directed EPA to develop
guidance and to assist federal agencies with incorporating
environmental preferability into their purchasing procedures. The
conference objective is to increase and maintain a market for
environmentally preferable commercial products in the federal
government. Spending $200 billion annually, the federal government can
apply its purchasing power to create a demand for products that have
a reduced impact on the environment. The manufacturing sector and the
federal government need guidance on how to proceed in this challenge.
This symposium will bring together both the manufacturing sector and
federal agency personnel to introduce them to the principles of
environmental preferability. The interactive workshops are intended to
assist participants in "greening" federal purchasing. The goal of this
symposium is to assist in making environmental performance a factor in
federal government purchasing decisions, along with product
performance and cost. Join us as we take this new environmental
initiative into the next century. Who Should Attend Federal officials
who wish to increase their purchase and use of products with
environmentally preferable attributes, including: federal facility &
installation managers; federal acquisition & procurement policy
managers & personnel; operations & maintenance managers; environmental
health & safety managers. Companies who manufacture environmentally
preferable products, including product manufacturers, suppliers &
