SWEDEN: DECREE ON AMENDMENT IN THE ROAD TRAFFIC ORDINANCE The following notification is being circulated in accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif.97.125. 1. Member to Agreement notifying: SWEDEN. If applicable, name of local government involved (Articles 3.2 and 7.2). 2. Agency responsible: Ministry of Transport and Communications. Agency or authority designated to handle comments regarding the notification can be indicated if different from above. 3. Notified under Article 2.9.2. 4. Products covered (HS or CCCN where applicable, otherwise national tariff heading. ICS numbers may be provided in addition, where applicable): Trucks and their trailers. 5. Title, number of pages and language(s) of the notified document: Decree on Amendment in the Road Traffic Ordinance. 6. Description of content: Vehicle combinations which comply with the Modular Concept may have a total length of 25.25 m. -- The Modular Concept is described as combinations of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers complying with the dimensions laid down in Directive 96/53/EC, points 1.1, 1.2, 1.4-1.8, 4.2 and 4.4 of Annex 1 and where the loading length for all vehicles but the semi-trailer do not exceed 7.82 m. -- The maximum authorized speed for a vehicle combination comprising a motor vehicle, a dolly and a semi-trailer will be 80 km/h. on condition that the vehicles fulfill some technical requirements. -- All units of a vehicle combination longer than 24 m. shall be equipped with anti-lock brakes. -- The Swedish National Road Administration will be authorized to lay down requirements for brakes and coupling devices and turning criteria for vehicle combinations longer than 24 m. -- The new regulation will enter into force on 1 July 1997. -- Vehicles that have been registered before 1 January 1998 may, during a transition period be part of a combination that are longer than 24 m., even if the vehicle does not comply with all the requirements for the Modular Concept. 7. Objective and rationale: Introduction of Modular Concept vehicles according to Directive 96/53/EC with a maximum length of 25.25 m. The technical requirements are necessary to ensure road safety and passability. 8. Relevant documents: The Road Traffic Ordinance 1972:603. 9.
