PRODUCTS The following notification is being circulated in accordance
with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif.97.89 dated 12 March 1997. 1. Member to
Agreement notifying: JAMAICA. If applicable, name of local government
involved (Articles 3.2 and 7.2). 2. Agency responsible: The Bureau of
Standards (Jamaica) JBS. Agency or authority designated to handle
comments regarding the notification can be indicated if different from
above. 3. Notified under Article 2.9.2. 4. Products covered (HS or
CCCN where applicable, otherwise national tariff heading. ICS numbers
may be provided in addition, where applicable): Major Household
Appliances. 5. Title, number of pages and language(s) of the notified
document: Standard Specification for Energy Labelling of Appliances and
Products. Approximately ten (10) pages. 6. Description of content: The
document defines the terms and conditions under which major household
appliances shall be labelled and places particular emphasis on the
energy operating characteristics of these appliances. Thedocument is a
revision of the standard JS 1: Part 21, which was published in 1992.
7. Objective and rationale: To provide consumers with valuable
information and promote the use of energy efficient household
appliances. 8. Relevant documents: A notice of the standard will appear
in the Jamaica Gazette Supplement -- Proclamations, Rules and
Regulations. When adopted the document will appear as a Jamaica
National Standard which will be available for sale. 9. Proposed date of
adoption: June 1997; Proposed date of entry into force: June 1997. 10.
