NON-SWITCHED TELEPHONE NETWORK The following notification is being
circulated in accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif.97.72 dated 10
March 1997. 1. Member to Agreement notifying: AUSTRALIA. If
applicable, name of local government involved (Articles 3.2 and 7.2).
2. Agency responsible: AUSTEL (Australian Telecommunications
Authority). Agency or authority designated to handle comments regarding
the notification can be indicated if different from above. 3. Notified
under Article 2.9.2. 4. Products covered (HS or CCCN where applicable,
otherwise national tariff heading. ICS numbers may be provided in
addition, where applicable): Customer equipment connected to the
telecommunications network. 5. Title, number of pages and language(s)
of the notified document: TS 006: "General Requirements for Customer
Equipment Connected to the Non-Switched Telephone Network." (42 Pages,
English). 6. Description of content: This technical standard relates
to customer equipment (CE). It defines the general technical conditions
and performance requirements for interfacing and non-interference
interworking that customer equipment shall meet for connection to
dedicated lines of a telecommunications network. Specific requirements
for interworking and non-interference with particular PTN services are
described in other AUSTEL technical standards. 7. Objective and
rationale: Technical regulation consistent with Part 21 of the
