FEDCAC is soliciting sources to purchase a range of computer systems
for scientific computation at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The Government is not interested in the purchase of desktop
workstations, but rather in the purchase of systems to be used as
servers on the NIH network. At the lower limit, the Government desires
systems which can accommodate at least four processors in a shared
memory configuration. At the upper limit, the Government desires highly
parallel systems with computing capability greater than its currently
installed 94-node IBM RS/6000 Scalable POWERParallel system (SP). The
Government is interested in systems that use either the Microsoft
Windows NT operating system or the UNIX operating system. Conventional
utility programs, program development tools, and libraries of
communication, mathematical and graphical subroutines are of interest,
but the Government does not anticipate the purchase of scientific
application programs. Aside from hardware and software maintenance, the
Government anticipates requiring only limited support services. The
Government anticipates a multiple award, fixed price, IDIQ contract.
The Government intends that each contractor should be able to provide
the full spectrum of required hardware. In order to be included on the
source list, qualified firms are required to submit a written request,
via email to mary.doherty@gsa.gov or barbara.brash@gsa.gov. Sources
responding to this notice shall indicate whether they are large, small,
small disadvantaged, or women-owned business. For this synopsis a
business is considered small if its average receipts for its preceding
three (3) fiscal years do not exceed $18 million dollars. The SIC Code
for this acquisition is 7374. This Sources Sought Synopsis is for
information and planning purposes only, and does not constitute a
Request for Proposal, and is not to be construed as a commitment by the
Government. (0098) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0311 19970410\70-0004.SOL)
