Shepley The Naval Air Systems Command intends to contract with Boeing North American to provide the necessary capability including engineering and software design, technical services, materials, supplies and spares to modify and flight test the X-31 aircraft to demonstrate, using an axisymmetric vectoring nozzle, extremely short take-off and landing capability, enhanced controllability and tailless flight. Boeing North American is the designer, developer, and sole manufacturer of the X-31 aircraft and is the only firm with the necessary knowledge, data, equipment, and experience to perform the effort. The proposed cost reimbursement contract is estimated at $49M over a four year period. See Numbered Notes 22 and 26. (0093)
