Carrington, Contracting Officer The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) requires a gas chromatograph (GC) mass spectrometer (MS), including installation and on-site training. The instrument should be capable of determining isotope ratios of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur. The performance standards should meet or exceed the following: (a) mass range of 10 to 70 molecular weight; (b) absolute sensitivity of the ion source shall be equal to or greater than 1 mass 44 ion per 1500 molecules of CO2 with a He carrier gas stream; (c) resolution for all collectors of M/DM> 90% and 10% valley definition. The GC-IRMS hardware standards should meet or exceed the following: (a) electromagnet for rapid switching between masses; (b) auto sampler for injection of liquids and gases; (c) combustion interface for compound specific isotope analysis. Peripheral requirements shall meet or exceed the following: (a) integrated computer automation and software; (b) 32 megabytes random access memory; (c) 2 gigabyte hard drive for software and data storage; (d) multi-tasking operating system with high resolution color graphics.
