The principle features of work will include: unwatering and dewatering excavations and foundations during construction; constructing upstream and downstream cofferdams, including a sheet pile cutoff in the upstream cofferdam; constructing upstream and downstream diversion works to connect the existing outlet works with the cofferdams and bypass stream flows through the construction area; excavation of upstream and downstream embankment and foundation materials to provide a suitable dynamic compaction area; densification of upstream and downstream foundation areas by dynamic compaction using a 30-ton weight dropped in a grid pattern, from a height of 100 feet; and constructing a stability berm, both on the upstream and downstream sides of the dam, over the densified material. Completion dates are as follows: Phase 1, December 1, 1997; Phase 2, April 15, 1998; Phase 3, 360 calendar days from Notice to Proceed. Solicitations will be available after April 18, 1997. Estimated project range is $5,000,001 to $10,000,000. This is a Two-step Sealed Bid. The two-step sealed bidding method of contracting will be used for contracting under this solicitation. Bids will be considered for award on the following schedules, but no bid will be considered for award for only part of a schedule. A site visit will be held May 1, 1997, at 10 a.m. at the Dam Site.
