COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 24,1997 PSA#1808Defense Supply Service-Washington, 5200 Army Pentagon, Washington,
D.C. 20310-5200 CENTRAL CONTRACTOR REGISTRATION VIA THE WEB Central Contractor
Registration (CCR) provides a single location for registering to
conduct business with the Federal Government and will be tied to
contracting and financial automated information systems for exchanging
information. CCR is intended to support contractors, government
procurement and financial officials, logisticians, and other personnel.
The benefits of implementing CCR are: (a) increased visibility of
worldwide sources for specific goods and services, with their
geographical performance preferences, to promote competition; (b)
one-time registration to conduct business with the government; (c)
increased potential sales opportunities; (d) expedited contract awards
and payments by electronically exchanging contractor specific data
with procurement, finance, and other automated information systems
(AIS) (e.g., logistics, transportation, medical); and (e) reduced
duplicative data entry which creates opportunities for errors and
inconsistent information and decrease data maintenance and storage
costs. Registration in CCR will be mandated and enforced within the
Department of Defense within the next few months in order to comply
with current legislation. Access to register is available via the
Internet at http://www.acq.osd.mil/ec. A registration workbook is
available to download for the site in three formats MS-Word,
WordPerfect, or a text file. It is highly recommended that the workbook
be reviewed to ensure all required information is available prior to
accessing CCR in order to circumvent additional Internet costs. The
government has identified the DUNS (Data Universal Numbering System)
assigned and managed by Dun & Bradstreet as the mechanism for
identifying contractors. You will need a DUNS prior to registering
which can be obtained at no charge by contacting Dun & Bradstreet at
1-800-333-0505 or visit their Web site at http://www.dbisna.com. The
initial Web application capability is for initial contractor
registration only. The ability to change, update or cancel a
registration andquery contractor information via the Web will be
available in January 1997. Contractors will be able to save in-progress
registration pending completion for up to 30 days. Upon entering a
partial registration, contractors will receive a temporary confirmation
number. The confirmation and DUNS numbers will serve as logins and
passwords to safeguard their information and are required to access the
in-progress registration for completion and submission. After
submitting a registration, contractors may use the Web application to
inquire regarding the status of their registration while being
validated. Typically, a registration will be activated 7-10 days after
submission. Once successfully registered in CCR, a notice will be sent
via email or facsimile (if addresses are provided, if not via regular
post) with information that a Trading Partner Identification Number
(TPIN) will soon follow. The TPIN is used for log on purposes and will
be sent separately. Anyone may access CCR via the Web to inquire
whether a vendor is registered. The CCR Web may be reached at
http://www.acq.osd.mil/ec. If you do not have Internet capability and
would like to register you may contact the Electronic Commerce
Information Center at 1-800-334-3414 8am-8pm, Eastern Time;
Monday-Friday, except Federal holidays. (0079) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0428 19970324\SU-0001.MSC)
