Purchasing Specialist, 202-268-6035 The U.S. Postal Service is
soliciting proposals from IBM, General Signal Networks, and Amdahl to
upgrade the ESCON Fiber Management System (EFMS) at the San Mateo
Computer Operations Service Center. The system will expand from one
that serves 4-128 channel CPUs to 8-128 channel CPUs. The ESCON
directors will increase from 6-124 to 10-124 port units. The I/O
capacity will serve 18-8 path DASD control units with support for 24-8
units, 192 tape control units similar to STK's Timberline technology,
and 32 channel to channel connections used for base sysplex
operations. The contractor must be an industry expert on current IBM
MVS or OS/390 ESCON technology, coordinate the MVS I/O gens that the
project requires, and a MVS mainframe supplier of ESCON Directors. The
requirement is for services in upgrade of EFMS including installation,
maintenance support, documentation, and some materials. It is
anticipated that the solicitation will be issued on or about February
7, 1997 by Internet. Contractors will be notified. No telephone calls.
