COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JANUARY 23,1997 PSA#176766-STD-12 PLUS CONDUCTIVITY, TEMPERATURE, AND DEPTH (CTD) PROBE The
Coastal Systems Station, Dahlgren Division,NSWC, Panama City, Florida
intends to issue on a Sole Source basis a Purchase Order for a STD-12
PLUS Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth (CTD) Probe from Applied
Microsystems, LTD, Sidney, British Columbia, Canada. No other
manufacturer of CTD arrays has been idenitified. Salient
characteristics of the CTD array follow. This CTD array consists of a
15 meter linear array of eleven (11) CT sensors spaced 1.5 meters apart
with two pressure sensors, one at the midpoint and one at the bottom of
the sensor string. The array will be towed at speeds of up to four
knots with the top sensor at a depth of from one to five meters. A
depressor will be attached to the bottom end of the sensor chain to
maintain the array in near vertical alignment while being towed. The
sensors are to be sampled simultaneously at a rate of eight to ten
samples per second with the data transmitted topside serially using
RS-485 prototcol. Sensor power will be provided by an external power
supply located topside. Power supply shall operate from 110 volts AC,
60 Hz. Sensors are housed in underwater housings rated to a depth of 50
meters. The temperature thermistor is located relative to the
conductivity cell to minimize salinity spiking. Range/accuracy of the
sensors is: Conductivity -- 0 to 6.5 S/m range, 0.001 S/m resolution,
+/- 0.01 S/m accuracy, and <30 millisecond response time at flushing
speed of 1 m/s; Temperature -- 0 to 30 degrees Centigrade range, 0.001
degree resolution, +/- 0.01 degree accuracy, and <100 millisecond
response time; Pressure -- 0 to 50 dbar range, 0.01 dbar resolution,
+/- 0.05 percent full scale accuracy, and <25 millisecond response
time. Cable consists of power and signal conductors with an inner
strength member. Strength member available approximately two meters
below the bottom sensor by mechanical temination for the attachment of
user supplied depressor of up to 500 pounds. Strength member is also
available to approximately two meters above the top sensor for
attachment of the deployment line. Breakouts are provided every 1.5
meters for attachment of the 11 CT sensors and at the midpoint and
bottom for attachment of the pressure sensors. Sensors are electrically
mated to the cable using underwater connectors and are attached to the
cable with fairings so that the sensor cells are aligned with the
water flow as the cable is towed vertically. An additional 50 meters of
electrical cable (power/signal) extend beyond the top attachment point
for connection of the sensors to the topside data collection system.
Software is provided for simultaneously querying each sensor (C-T and
Depth), recieving the serially (RS-485 protocol) transmitted data and
storing the data on the computer hard disk at a sampling rate of eight
to ten samples per second. Software shall run on an IBM compatible
i486 computer (user supplied). Delivery to the Coastal Systems Station,
Dahglren Divsion, NSWC, Panama City, Florida 32407-7001 will be 90 days
after issuance of the order. Note 22 applies. Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0553 19970123\SP-0001.MSC)
