Gwynn Oak Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21207-0696 -- Madeline Y. Tims 70 -- JOB CONTROL LANGUAGE (JCL) ENHANCEMENT SOFTWARE DUE 020397 POC
Madeline Y. Tims 410-965-9488 The Social Security Administration (SSA)
seeks to identify vendors who can provide software to evaluate and
enhance an existing base of over 10,000 sets of mainframe production
Job Control Language (JCL). The mainframe is an IBM-compatible system
running under the operating system Multiple Virtual System/Enterprise
Systems Architecture Version 5.2 and higher with Job Entry Subsystem 3
(JES3). The sort package in use at SSA is SyncSort version 3.6. SSA
also has an extension to the JES3 converter/interpreter called JEIRA
that enforces various SSA resource usage rules. The software must be
"off-the-shelf" and not require any changes to the operating system.
SSA requires that the software: 1) analyze batch production jobs on a
regular basis to determine changes to JCL and VSAM and SyncSort control
statements to improve performance and reduce abends (jobs should be
selected based on user supplied criteria); 2) provide some interface or
facility to permit user requirements (such as JEIRA); 3) provide a
printed list of the recommended changes; 4) permit SSA staff to remove
unwanted changes from the list; 5) make the remaining changes on the
list and within the JCL, denote exactly what changes were made (to
facilitate any manual fallback); 6) have the ability to restrict JCL
changes that do not meet SSA and IBM standards; 7) summarize the
numbers and types of changes being made and the resources being saved
once the changes are applied; 8) support Batch Pipes and 9) be Year-
2000 compliant. Firms possessing the capability to furnish the above
software are invited to submit complete information discussing such
capabilities; i.e., descriptive literature/brochures, and if applicable
GSA Schedules. The information respondents provide shall pertain to
this synopsis only. Cross-referencing to material previously submitted
will not be acceptable. Respondents will not be notified of the
results of the evaluation of the source data received. No cost or
pricing data is required or requested. No contract award will be made
on the basis of the information solicited or received. This is not a
request for proposal and requests for copies of a solicitation will not
be honored or acknowledged. Interested parties must respond in writing
within 15 calendar days from the date of this publication and refer to
