COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JANUARY 7,1997 PSA#1756NASA Langley Research Center, Bid Distribution Office, MS 126, Hampton,
Virginia 23681-0001 D -- MULTIDISCIPLINARY COMPUTATIONAL ENVIRONMENT POC NASA Langley
Research Center, Industry Assistance Office, Mail Stop 144, Hampton,
Virginia 23681-0001. The Multidisciplinary Optimization Branch (MDOB)
at NASA Langley Research Center is hereby soliciting information for
potential sources to provide a framework structure for
multidisciplinary computational environments. MDOB defines a framework
as a hardware and software architecture that enables the easy
integration of and communication among diverse disciplinary codes for
execution under the control of optimization methods. The requirements
for the multidisciplinary computing environment are grouped into five
major functions as follows: (1) FUNCTION: Facilitate research-
Facilitates additional views of processes/data, Provides a good tool
for experimentation, Provides a consistent environment to test new
ideas, and Manages design data. (2) FUNCTION: Provide software
communication -- Plugs modules together easily, Defines interfaces,
Ties disciplines/pieces/parts together, Establishes standards, Easy to
use and modify, and Provides high-level language interface. (3)
FUNCTION: Provide support tools—Provides various optimizers,
Makes a variety of discipline methods available, Provides distributed
capability, Provides reusable software, Provides central data base,
Provides visualization, Provides object-oriented capability, Allows for
iteration and branching, Supports legacy codes, Supports proprietary
codes, Supports a variety of programming languages, and Is
well-documented. (4) FUNCTION: Improve design process -- Better use of
resources, Automates tedious tasks, Speeds up the design process, and
Reduces design cycle time and cost, (5) FUNCTION: Facilitate system
design -- Provides effective and efficient tools for systems
integration and analysis, Provides a more systematic approach, and
Organizes/controls configurations. Of particular interest is commercial
software which would require little or no modification to meet listed
requirements, and the listed requirements may be slightly modified to
accommodate the use of commercial software. Vendors having the
capabilities necessary to meet orexceed the stated
requirements/specifications are invited to submit appropriate
documentation, literature, brochures, and references. This synopsis is
for information and planning purposes and is not to be construed as a
commitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for
information solicited. Respondents deemed fully qualified will be
considered in any resulting solicitation for the requirement. Firms
responding should indicate whether they are a socially or economically
disadvantaged business firm, an 8(a) firm, a small business, and/or
woman-owned business. The government reserves the right to consider a
small business or 8(a) set-aside based upon responses hereto. Closing
date for submission of responses is 14 days from the date of
publication. In responding, reference SS267. (0003) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0016 19970107\D-0003.SOL)
