AMERICA," MEETING SCHEDULED FOR DALLAS, TX. JAN. 10-11, 1997, POC

Federal Interagency Council on Metric Policy present a regional Metric
Dialogue January 10-11, 1997, at Southern Methodist University's
Umphrey Lee Center in Dallas, Texas. At this meeting, participants will
have the opportunity to hear from experts on the benefits of using the
metric system to increase our global competitiveness, commercialize
new technologies, and enhance the job skills of America's workforce.
Open discussions will probe critical metrication issues. The meetings
build on the key themes -- trade, education, and public awareness --
that emerged from the first National Metric Town Meeting held at the
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) March 27-28,

Transportation's Research and Special Programs Administration (RSPA)
will conduct a concurrent meeting on January 10. The RSPA will host a
meeting of public and industry representatives to obtain public input
to assist RSPA in converting its Pipeline Safety Regulations from
