NO REIMBURSEMENT WILL BE MADE FOR ANY COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH PROVIDING INFORMATION IN RESPONSE TO THIS SOURCES SOUGHT ANNOUNCEMENT AND/OR FOLLOW-UP. The Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center (NFESC), Port Hueneme, CA is seeking information for battery source reduction strategies. These strategies may include but are not limited to alternatives to primary dry cell batteries, dry cell bataery maintenance to optimize battery life, improved dry cell battery technology and dry cell battery recycling. Special interest shall focus on the substitution of lithium sulfur dioxide batteries designed specially for military applications. Preferably the suggested technology shall be of secondary battery chemistry, possibly lithium ion. Focuses on other dry cell battery chemistries are also requested. These chemistries include but are not limited to alkaline, carbon zinc, magnesium, lithium and nickel-cadmium battery chemistries. However, wet cell battery chemistries (lead acid batteries) are excluded from this search. Suggested battery technologies must be able to withstand extreme conditions. The environment that these batteries will be exposed to is characterized by high temperatures, low humidity and abusive working conditions. Average temperatures range from 67 degrees to 120 degrees Fahrenheit and drops to 15 degrees Fahrenheit in winter. Recommendations shall be easy to operate, maintain, and very durable. Respondents must provide company name, address, point of contact with telephone and facsimile number. Respondents must also provide a narrative of the technology, associated specifications, associated costs, regulatory and disposal requirements. Information on testing, evaluation and analysis of the technology shall also be provided. A comparative analysis with existing technologies and systems is also required. If recommendations are approved by any regulatory agencies, please indicate. Please provide references of existing users.
