COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 30,1996 PSA#1690LICENSING OPPORTUNITY: STABLE METAL OXIDES AND CHALCOGENIDES FOR
RECHARGEABLE POWER SOURCES Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) desires
to license its patented chemical process for making lithiated metal
oxides for rechargeable lithium batteries. This process is superior to
previous processes in industry, resulting in cathode materials that
are electrochemically stable. The benefits of the technology include
customization of particle size, improved charge retention/decay rate,
and offers increased battery cycle life. The process was developed
jointly with the US Advanced Battery Consortium for improved power
sources for electric vehicles but can be used for other commercial
applications. Sandia National Laboratories has been responsible for
energy related missions of the Department of Energy for decades. In
addition, the transfer of laboratory technologies to the private sector
to enhance US economic competitiveness and expand the technological
base has recently been mandated by the US Congress. As a government
laboratory, however, we are not in the business of manufacturing,
marketing, or distributing the materials we develop. Our goal is to
find companies, both chemical suppliers and end-user battery
manufacturers, that would be interested in licensing and
commercializing this technology so that the consumer may benefit from
this sponsored research. To express interest, please respond by mail or
fax to: Joanne Trujillo, Sandia National Laboratories, Technology
Partnerships and Commercialization, P.O. Box 5800-MS 1380, Albuquerque,
