U.S. Environmental Protection Agency intends to negotiate sole source with Cambridge Isotope Laboratories, 50 Frontage Rd., Andover, MA 01810 to purchase the following dioxin/furan standards for the analysis of polychlorinated dibenzodioxins and furans for the air toxic combustion program: 2 ml of Unlabeled Furans (Furan Mix High) GG-1013-D; 2 ml of unlabeled dioxins (dioxin mix high) GG-1013-D; 10 ml of internal standard (13C12) (Int Mix High) GG-1013-D; 1 ED-911 1,2,3,4-TCDD (13C12,99%); 1 ED-996 1,2,3,7,8,9-HxCDD (13C12,99%), and 10 ml Labeled Surrogate (13C12 except for 2378) GG-1013-D. EPA believes Cambridge Laboratories is the only known source for this complete set of standards that has a high enough quality to be used in this program. These are both isotopically labelled and unlabelled standards for use in the analysis of dioxins and furans. The laboratory safety protocol requires that the 2,3,7,8 substituted congeners not be used due to their toxicity. This precludes the normal mix of standards. Furthermore, all previous standards have been purchased from this same source, so for continuity of analysis between the old and new standards, it is very important for the standards to be from the same source.
