52 -- GAS-OPERATED PISTON GAUGE SOL NB8380006780JW DUE 091896 POC Jacqueline Wright (303) 497-5282 The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to enter into a sole source contract with DH Instruments, Inc. 1905 West Third Street, Tempe, Arizona under the authority of 41 U.S.C. 253(c) (1)--Only one responsible source, to provide a piston gage capable of operating as a primary pressure standard over the entire pressure range of 5 kPa to 7 MPa. This system is to be operated with either nitrogen or helium gas in both absolute and gage modes with a total uncertainty in pressure of 0.002% for pressures up to 350 kPa and 0.005% for pressures up to 7MPa. The system is to be highly automated, including on-board electronics to measure and correct for the effects of piston temperature, ambient temperature, barometric pressure, and humidity; an integrated vacuum gage measuring the vacuum under the bell jar is also required. The required pressure range is to be measured with two integrated piston/cylinder sets of 35 mm diameter and 8 mm diameter; this requirement is to enable interchangability with (and thus certification against) the pressure standards maintained by the Pressure and Vacuum group of the NIST, Gathersburg, Maryland. The starting mass load must be no greater than 500 grams and the starting pressure must be no greater than 5 kPa and 100 kPa for the two piston cylinders Kn - 10 kPa/kg ceramic piston-tunsten carbide cylinder respectively. DH Instruments is the only known manufacturer capable of meeting the agency's requirements. No RFQ is available; however, interested sources may respond by submitting documentation and literature that clearly demonstrates the capability to meet this requirement.
