99 -- REACTION WHEEL ASSEMBLY SOL RFP5-58075/506 POC Joan W. Tomasello, Contracting Officer, (301)286-6535. NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) intends to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP5-58075/506), on a competitive basis, for reaction wheels and drive electronics referred to as a Reaction Wheel Assembly (RWA) for the Microwave Anisotropy Probe (MAP) Attitude Control System (ACS). The basic contract resulting from this solicitation will require delivery of three RWA's and may include options for four additional RWA's. The RWA design is dictated by performance requirements of the MAP spacecraft. The purpose of each unit is to develop reaction torque and store angular momentum. The reaction wheels will operate during flight in a continuous mode with varying cyclic torques and wheel speeds. The basic contract period of performance is 18 months. This will be a firm fixed price contract. The RFP is scheduled to be released on/about 6 September 1996 with anticipated contract award on/before 6 January 1997.
