the ability to furnish the property described herein are requested to
give written notification (including the telephone number for a point
of contact) to the procuring office above within forty-five (45)
calendar days from the date of this synopsis. The USGS has a
requirement to upgrade its geophotogrammetric mapping system from a
hardware-bound analytical stereoplotter to a fully digital, soft-copy
stereoplotter running on an existing Silicon Graphics Indigo2 Unix
workstation. An essential component of this upgrade is the purchase of
Unix-based photogrammetric orientation and mapping software compatible
with existing multi-model orientation software and a DSR analytical
stero compilation instrument. The following items are required: Phodis
st 30 Digital Steroplotter package with fixed image/moving cursor and
Phodis Base P/N: 516008-9013, TS Software (TopoSurf add-on) P/N:
518701-6203-010, Cadmap/dgn (additional license) P/N: M518709-6804-020,
Cadmap/dtm (additional license) P/N: 904-200, microstation, V.5.XX for
Unix, Dual-Head upgrade-XL Graphics board and 20 inch monitor P/N:
HU-DHXL19, Extra Pair Stero Glasses. The existing USGS DSR analytical
steroplotter is controlled by Zeiss commercial software, custom
in-house software integration implemented by Zeiss, and MASS/AMD
orientation software for conventional and multi-model terrestrial
photogrpahy supplied by Luis Cogan Software. Components of this
software are written specifically for the USGS to facilitate this
integration. The soft-copy system must be fully hardware and software
compatible with the existing DSR analytical steroplotter system and the
new softcopy system. Based on information available at this time, and
in accordance with 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1), implemented by FAR 6.302-1, the
Government considers the items specified as a sole source from Carl
Zeiss, Inc. 61 Inverness Drive East, Suite 102, Englewood, CO 80112 and
proposes to negotiate a contract with that firm on that basis. However,
should additional sources be identified, they will be considered. Firms
who feel that they can furnish the required items or its functional
equivalent (based upon the criteria specified herein) are invited to
submit in writing an affirmative response to this announcement. An
affirmative response would include literature, brochures and such
othere materials which correpsond to the required items stated herein.
This information will be evaluated and used to determine if
competitive opportunities exist. Since no solicitation document exists,
requrests for such documents without accompanying information will be
considered non-responsive to this request without further
consideration. This notice may represent the Government's only official
