The XM45 Chemical Biological Mask is a replacement for the M43/M43A1 Type II, M24 and M49 Mask and as a component to Land Warrior. The mask consists of close-fitting eye lenses, front and side voicemitters for face to face and phone communication, a microphone pass through for communication systems, a drink tube pass through for liquid nutrients, a low profile canister/hose assembly which allows both hose and face mounted configurations, interchangeable silicone rubber nosecups, injection molded glass filled nylon component parts, close fitting polycarbonate cylindrical lenses, clear protective outsert lenses, a silicone rubber facepiece with a in-turned peripheral seal and a bromobutyl/ethylene propolyene dimonomer (EPDM) rubber second skin, a butyl coated cloth hood, a convential six point suspension system and carrier. Clear protective outserts and inserts for vision correction. The rubber components will be produced using rubber injection molding and the plastic components will be produced using plastic injection molding. The side ports, outlet valve housing, lens retainer and front voicemitter will be assembled to the faceblank by unltrasonically welding the components around the faceblank rubber material. The primary polycarbonate lenses will be coated with an agent resistant hardcoat. The nosecup valve seats are insert molded into the nosecup rubber. The metal tabs are insert-molded into the faceblank during the injection molding process. The remaining components are assembled into their proper locations in the mask. Packaging for the system has been developed and issimilar to prior mask systems. The mask will provide the required CB protection without the aid of a motor/blower while maintaining compatibility with aircraft sighting systems and night vision devices. TheXM45 Mask will be used by all Army Aircrew members excepty AH-64 helicopter pilots in the conduct of aviation missions anywhere in the CB environment. The mask will allow aircrewmen to use existing and future sighting devices, except for the AH-64's Integrated Helment and Display Sighting System, and will allow missions to be flown in an active laser environment. It will be worn by aircrewmen, both inside and outside the aircraft in basic and hot climatic conditions. The XM45 Masks will be also used in conjection with the Land Warrior system as well as personnel deemed ''hard to fit'' in M40/M42 series masks. The Government shall provide, as GFE, most of the molds required to produce both the plastic and rubber components of the mask. This acquisition will be procured on a best value basis with technical/price/past performance proposals to be submitted. Solicitation is to be a 3 year multi-year for FYs 97, 98, & 99 with possible evaluated options for FYs 2000 and 2001. Quantities are: 13,043 systems for FY97; 8,525 FY98; 4536 FY99. Some spare parts may be included. Sizes are extra small, small, medium, and large. This acquisition may be restricted to US and Canada.
