The U.S. Army has a requirement to improve the effectiveness of the AC-130 Gunship 105mm Ammunition at extended range and achieve low collateral damage while defeating a broad spectrum of targets with a 105mm guided munition. The munition shall achieve compatibility with existing AC-130U sensors, fire control, stowage, and operation, and attain low cost at minimum development risk with a plan for implementation to production by the turn of the century.
