are being solicited to provide technical, planning and design services
for exhibits and interpretive media for the Northern Great Lakes
Center. The Center is a new, interagency, visitor and environmental
education center in Ashland, Wisconsin. The purpose of the Center is to
interpret the history of the distinctive natural and cultural resources
of the region through programs and exhibits; educate through
environmental programs, wildlife viewing and opportunities for nature
study; inform visitors regarding public lands, area attractions, and
private commercial tourism facilities. The Center will be on a 180-acre
site, which includes restored ponds, wetland areas and other natural
features. The Center will include a reception/information/trip planning
area, auditorium, exhibit hall, temporary exhibit and lounge area,
wildlife observation area and a tower from which Lake Superior and
surrounding features can be viewed. The building also will contain a
library/archives, multipurpose classroom, and program and
administrative offices. The contractor shall provide complete plans,
designs, and specifications for production for the following: graphics
and information/interpretive displays in the entrance, lobby,
orientation and observation areas; and audio-visual media and
interpretive displays for the 100-seat auditorium. The Contractor shall
provide a complete exhibit plan and design for the 2700 square foot
exhibit hall. The exhibits will develop themes outlining the natural
and cultural history of the region, the effects of human actions and
interactions in this environment, and the choices which face the
region's people and environment today and in the future. The planning
and design package shall contain all label copy, cropped facsimiles of
graphics, photos, or renderings with size and weight of all artifacts
to be used in the exhibit, treatments for all audiovisual exhibit
components, design and detailing of all exhibit cases and structures
and specifications for fabrication. The contractor shall not be
responsible for purchasing graphics, objects or artifacts, but shall
locate, identify and confirm their availability. The Government
anticipates award of a firm, fixed-price contract on or about November
1, 1996. The Contractor shall participate in a preliminary planning
meeting and submit preliminary and final schematic design proposals and
a conceptual design package, with a final design package to be
submitted not later than July 30, 1997. This project is 100 percent
set-aside for small businesses ($5 million average annual receipts for
