COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 24,1996 PSA#1643DHHS, PHS, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Program
Acquisition Branch (Washington), 6525 Belcrest Road, Room 1170,
Hyattsville, Maryland 20782 B -- SECOND LONGITUDINAL STUDY OF AGING (LSOA II) SOL 200-96-7047 POC
Contact Point, Sharon Gayle, 301/436-7007 ext. 137, Contracting
Officer, Ronald L. Atherholt The contractor shall conduct the first of
three planned followup waves of the Second Longitudinal Study of Aging
(LSOA II). The study is based on a sample of Americans who were age 70
years and older in 1994 when first interviewed as part of the 1994
National Health Interview Survey (NHIS). These individuals will be
reinterviewed using a computer assisted telephone interviewing (CATI).
The contractor will trace subjects, program and conduct the CATI
interviews, and prepare final data tapes and documentation of the
survey results. Data collected in the LSOA II will replicate data
collected by the first LSOA, conducted a decade earlier. Hence, it will
provide data necessary for comparison of longitudinal trends for two
different cohorts of elderly individuals. In addition, the LSOA II will
provide a new set of disability prevalence and transition rates, as
well as other hypothesis-generating health data. LSOA will also provide
data on covariates such as education, socioeconomic status, health
behaviors and opinions, use of assistive technology and health services
utilization to identify mechanisms accounting for any observed changes
over time and between the two cohorts. The followup approach permits
identification of predictive factors that can lead to appropriate
interventions to prevent or reduce illness and disability. The
estimated period of performance will be for 24 months from contract
award and is structured in two phases. In addition, it provides for an
alternate approach for Phase II. The estimated release date of this
Request for Proposal (RFP) is approximately 15 days after the date of
this publications and the closing date will be approximately 30 days
after issue date. All requests for copies of this RFP must be in
writing addressed to the attention of Ms. Sharon Gayle and reference
RFP Number 200-96-7047. All responsible sources may submit a proposal
which shall be considered by the agency. (0204) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0014 19960723\B-0007.SOL)
