COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 24,1996 PSA#1643Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration, Office of Contracts and Procurement, NAD-30, 400
Seventh Street, SW, Room 5301, Washington, DC 20590 A -- EXTENDED MILEAGE EVALUATION OF UTQG CMT AND CANDIDATE TIRE WEAR
RATES SOL DTNH22-96-R-01160 DUE 090596 POC Henrietta R. Mosley,
Contract Specialist, (202) 366-9570 The overall purpose of this
requirement is to conduct tests using Uniform Tire Quality Grading
procedures to evaluate the actual treadwear performance and candidate
tire under extended mileage conditions. The specific objectives of this
procurement are to: 1)determine the actual overall wear rate of the
current CMT (ASTM 1136) from zero wear to approximately wear out
condition as opposed to the projected wear rate based on a 6400 mile
test and assumption of linear wear for the remainder of the tire's
life; 2)to determine the actual wear rate of selected samples of
candidate tires over the same extended mileage as described in (1)
above; 3)to compare the projected mileages of candidate tires using
increasingly larger segments of the tire's tread life; and 4)to compare
the wear rate of CMTS at different points of their tread lives under
identical environmental conditions. It is contemplated that a Fixed
Unit Price(Per Test) type contract will be awarded for this effort. The
anticipated period of performance is twelve(12)months with four(4)
twelve(12)month option periods. This solicitation will be mailed to
those organizations responding in writing to this announcement. The
anticipated issuance date is August 5, 1996. (0204) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0002 19960723\A-0002.SOL)
