B -- TREATABILITY STUDY TO DETERMINE ALTERNATIVE FEASIBLE TECHNOLOGY FOR THE TREATMENT OF AN INDUSTRIAL WASTE POC Richard L. Bachand, EG&G Florida, Inc. BOC-110. In support of NASA Kennedy Space Center, EG&G Florida, Inc. is seeking sources to perform a treatability study to determine an alternative feasible technology for the treatment of an industrial waste. The successful Subcontractor(s) shall perform a treatability study for the determination of a feasible, commercially available process technology for the treatment of a medium strength industrial wastewater. This notice is one method being used to solicit interest in participation in the herein described treatability study. BOC propellant operations, in support of NASA and USAF launch activities, generates the candidate wastestream as a nonhazardous industrial waste. The propellant derived waste consists of a mixture of dilute hydrazine, citric acid, and isopropyl alcohol in aqueous solution at concentrations ranging from 100 to 1000 ppm. The primary project requirement is the determination, through laboratory bench scale reduction of waste constituents to an acceptable level for subsequent discharge to a conventional activated sludge FOTW (Federally Owned Treatment Works) plant. The treatment method employed shall be acceptable as biological (biodegradation or biotransformation), chemical, or combination based technology. The project task plan shall progress as a pre-screening/investigative effort of alternative feasible technologies and an evaluation to recommend one or more technologies for bench scale testing, and testing phase to generate and analyze data which would provide NASA with a concept for further activity. Interested firms are invited to submit brief written statements of interest and citations of relevant related background sufficient to demonstrate capability to meet the requirements within 15 days of the publication of this synopsis. Telephone responses will not be considered. Responses to this notice will be used to determine whether competition exists and whether a formal RFP is appropriate. Responses should be mailed to EG&G Florida, Inc., Kennedy Space Center, FL 32899, Attn: Richard L. Bachand, BOC 110. (0201)
