Systems Command (MARCORSYSCOM) is issuing this Request for Information
(RFI). MARCORSYSCOM is presently conducting a market investigation on
the feasibility of using Non-Developmental Items (NDI) to upgrade the
M2 Heavy Machine Gun to include a quick change stellite barrel
modification, manual safety and adjustable front sight. MARCORSYSCOM
intends to provide a suitable firing range with bleachers, ammunition,
tripods and mounts for vendors to provide a briefing, present their
wears and fire the system. Each vendor will be allotted one hour for
the entire demonstration, if more time is required, it is to be
requested upon acceptance of this invitation. The audience will consist
of members of all four branches of service to include requirements,
acquisition and user communities (no hands on firing for attendees).
Question and answer session will be conducted at the end of the
demonstration. The intent of the demonstrations is to generate interest
among the services in this yet to be funded program and establish a
good acquisition plan. The following general comments are provided so
that vendors are prepared to respond : (a) Can existing receivers be
used? (b) Can existing barrels be used? (c) Do all modifications have
to be done by vendor? (d) Will the weapons have a fixed headspace and
timing? (e) Are any additional tools required for maintenance or
operation? (f) Can these changes be incorporated on ground, vehicle,
and tank applications? (g) What effects do these changes have on
reliability and maintainability? (h) Have all components been tested
for adverse conditions? (i) Can standard military optical day/night
devices be easily applied? (j) Is test data available? NOTE: No
recording or camera equipment permitted in the demonstration area. This
notice does not constitute an invitation for Bids or a request for
Proposal (RFP) and it is not a commitment by the Marine Corps Systems
Command to procure subject equipment. The tentative date for this
demonstration is 27/28 August 1996, all vendors will be notified by
telephone of the exact time and date of the demonstration. Interested
participants in this program shall submit in writing acceptance and a
point of contact that can be reached to finalize agenda by the close of

exists at this time. THE MARINE CORPS DOES NOT INTEND TO AWARD A
