206/744-3338 This project consists of construction/relocation of a
''most difficult'' hiker-only trail into Yellow Aster Butte and Tomyhoi
Peak within the Mt. Baker Wilderness, Whatcom County. Construction
involves clearing of sub-alpine vegetation from a 36'' right-of-way,
construction of a 20'' wide mineral soil tread involving grubbing of
soil, organic debris, small rock and roots with hand tools and where
necessary, blasting of larger roots, stumps, boulders and bedrock.
Chainsaws are not permitted but a waiver for use of a motorized rock
drill will be granted within the Mt. Baker Wilderness. Government
estimated price range is between $25,000.00 and $100,000.00. Estimated
