Specialist, (301) 402-3085. The National Institutes of Health, (NIH)
intends to procure on a firm fixed price, sole source basis in
accordance with FAR 6.302-1 (b) as authorized by 41 U.S.C. 253 (c)(1)
from Carl Zeiss, Inc., One Zeiss Dr., Thornwood, NY 10594, a Laser
Scanning System for Flourescent Microscopy. The system shall have the
following Characteritics: 1. Each fluorescent detector shall have
individual confocal apertures (pinholes) which shall be digitally
controlled, providing and accurate means to control the Z resolution of
confocal images formed at each detector. 2. Shall include dual scanning
galvanometer mirrors having less than 3 % light loss and shall be able
to rotate or scan a full 360%. 3. Shall be able to simultaneously scan
fluorescent, reflected, and transmitted images. 4. Shall include a
macro programming facility including an automatic record mode and macro
interpretive capability combined with a convenient dialog box editor.
5. Shall include a Z focus motor with the ability to operate within 50
nM steps over the entire stroke of a 9 mm range which shall allow the
entire Z imaging area to have long working distance objectives. 6.
Shall accommodate both 2 photon as well as laser trapping and tweezing
techniques on the inverted microscope stand. 7. Shall be upgradeable
to add both UV laser and optics. It is the Governments belief that this
requirement can be met only by Carl Zeiss, Inc. This is not a formal
Solicitation. However, concerns that respond to this notice must
furnish concise responses directed specifically to the requirements
mentioned above. Sources demonstrating the capability to accomplish the
above shall supply pertinent information in sufficient detail to
demonstrate the ability to perform. Information furnished shall include
enough material to perform a proper evaluation. Respondents will not be
