The Social Security Administration (SSA) is seeking sources who can
provide high performance multiprocessing Sparc technology servers and
high performance Sparc technology workstations. The servers must be
able to perform real-time database search and retrieval with fully
integrated WEB and mirroring servers. The workstations will be used to
administer other Sun servers and to develop, test and evaluate new WEB
and search tools and applications. At a minimum, the servers and
workstations must be able to support the latest versions of the Solaris
operating and development system, allowing for complete binary and
functional compatibility with current SUN workstations and servers as
well as the full suite of TCP/IP (including NFS) and X11. The servers
and workstations must meet, at a minimum, the following specifications.
First server configuration: the server must support both scalable and
modular processing, must be configured to attach to Token Ring and be
capable of attaching to Ethernet, must perform dual Sparc processing at
a minimum of 85 MHZ and have the capability to add additional
processors, must have hard disk storage capacity of at least 16 GB with
options to add additional storage, must have at least one CD-Rom drive
integrated into the system, must have at least 1 MB cache capacity,
must have at least a 20 inch color monitor, must have a Turbo GX frame
buffer with appropriate cable, must have at least 128 MB of RAM, must
have at least a 50 MHZ XD bus, must have an appropriate keyboard and
mouse, must be compatible with Solaris 2.x operating system (32-bit
UNIX;latest version), must have at least a 14 GB tape drive, must have
both parallel and serial ports integrated into the system, and must
provide both data protection and recovery from failures. Second server
configuration: must support both scalable and modular processing, must
be configured to attach to Token Ring and be capable of attaching to
Ethernet, must perform dual Sparc processing at a minimum of 75 MHZ and
have the capability to add additional processors, must have hard disk
storage capacity of at least 4 GB with options to add additional
storage, must have at least one internal 1.44 floppy drive integrated
into the system, must have at least one CD-Rom drive integrated into
the system, must have a Turbo GX 8-bit accelerated graphics capability,
must have at least a 20 inch color monitor, must have at least 1 MB
cache capacity, must have at least a Turbo GX 1 MB frame buffer, must
have at least 64 MB of RAM, must have at least a 20 inch color monitor,
must have an appropriate keyboard and mouse, must be compatible with
Solaris 2.x operating system (32-bit UNIX, latest version), and must
have both parallel and serial ports integrated into the system.
Workstation configuration: must support both scalable and modular
processing, must be configured to attach to Token Ring and be capable
of attaching to Ethernet, must perform Sparc processing at a minimum of
75 MHZ, must have a hard disk capacity of at least 4 GB with options to
add additional storage, must have at least one internal 1.44 floppy
drive integrated into the system, must have at least one CD-Rom drive
integrated into the system, must have a Turbo GX 8-bit accelerated
graphics capability, must have at least a 20 inch color monitor, must
have at least 1 MB cache capacity, must have at least a Turbo GX 1 MB
frame buffer, must have at least 32 MB of RAM, must have at least a 20
inch color monitor, must have an appropriate keyboard and mouse, must
be compatible with the Solaris 2.x operating system (32-bit UNIX;
latest version), and must have both parallel and serial ports
integrated into the system. It appears that the only hardware capable
of meeting these specifications are Sun Microsystems SuperSparc 71
(workstation), SuperSparc 712 (server) and SparcServer. Interested
firms able to provide the required equipment are invited to submit
information in sufficient detail to demonstrate their ability to
provide the required capabilities. Cross-reference to previously
submitted material is discouraged. No cost or pricing data is required
or requested. This is not a request for proposals (RFP) and the
Government does not intend to pay for information submitted.
Respondents will not be notified of the results of the evaluation of
data received, but sources deemed qualified will be solicited for
quotations. Responses to this notice should be submitted in duplicate
within 15 days of the publication of this notice and should refer to
