modification to the original intent synopsis which was published in
FY95. It is being repeated here due only to the time that has elapsed
since that publication. The requirement remains the same and is being
repeated. ALL THOSE WHO REQUESTED A COPY OF THE RFP NEED NOT REAPPLY.
The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) of
the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has a requirement for on-site
management, expertise, services, and other resources necessary to
provide a wide range of technical support services required for the
proper care, use, and humane treatment of laboratory animals within
barrier, Specific Pathogen Free Facilities. Functions include: general
management of contractor staff, veterinary medical assistance, animal
care, animal technical support, data management, cage and environment
sanitation, logistical, and research and clerical support. Support
shall be provided to animal projects involving the full range of
biomedical research and scientific disciplines, especially transgenic
science. Animal species may include: mice, rats, hamsters, guinea pigs,
gerbils, rabbits, frogs, sea urchins, fish, and other vertebrates and
invertebrates. All contract activities shall be responsive to the NIH
research requirements and in strict compliance with AAALAC
accreditation standards. The services are required mainly for Bldg. 6B
and 10/C127 animal facilities at the NIH Bethesda campus, however
other NIH facilities may be added to the contract as it progresses in
duration. The Government estimates that approximately 203,300 work
hours of support are needed from the following labor categories:
Supervisor, Laboratory Animal Caretaker, animal Health Technician,
Transgenic Technologist, Embryo/Cryopreservation Specialist, Biologist,
Laboratory Technician, Cagewasher, Physician's Assistant, and various
Administrative Staff. The applicable SIC code is 8744. This acquisition
is for a base contract of 1 year with 4 options for renewal of 1 year
each. This is a full and open competition. RFP requests may be faxed to
