circulated in accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif. 96.112. 1.

applicable): Food labelling. 5. Title, number of pages and language(s)
of the notified document: Uniform Compliance Date for Food Labelling
Regulations (2 pages). Description of content: The Administration is
proposing to establish 1 January 1998, as its new uniform compliance
date for all food labelling regulations that are issued after the
publication of a final rule based on this proposal and before 1 January
1997. The Administration has periodically announced uniform compliance
dates for new food labelling requirements to minimize the economic
impact of label changes. In 1992, the Administration suspended this
practice pending the issuance of regulations implementing the Nutrition
Labelling and Education Act of 1990 (the 1990 Amendments). 7. Objective
and rationale: To establish a new uniform compliance date for food
labelling regulations. 8. Relevant documents: 61 FR 16422, 15 April
1996; 21 CFR Part 1. Will appear in the Federal Register when adopted.
9. Proposed date of adoption: The Administration is proposing that 1
January 1998, be the new uniform compliance date for food labelling
regulations published after the publication of a final rule based on
this proposal and before 1 January 1997, except as otherwise provided
in individual regulations. Proposed date of entry into force: 10. Final
