Russell (415)522-3130. Design Competition for the redesign of the plaza
at the Phillip Burton Federal Building and US Courthouse, at 450 Golden
Gate Avenue, San Francisco, CA. Project ICA11205. The General Services
Administration (GSA) is issuing a call for entries for design ideas to
refurbish the plaza at the Phillip Burton Federal Building in San
Francisco. The renovation of the plaza is the last part of the recently
completed $100,000 million asbestos abatement and interior renovation
of the building. The competition hopes to generate exciting ideas that
may lead to a design services contract and hopefully construction of
the best design. The competition is open to all United States citizens.
Professional licensure as an Architect or Engineer is not required. All
submissions will be reviewed without revealing the identity of the
entrant. GSA is conducting this competition in conjunction with the San
Francisco Museum of Modern Act (SF MOMA) and The 1996 SF Prize
committee. Up to $10,000 will be awarded in cash prizes. GSA will
exhibit all submissions, and SF MOMA holds all rights to exhibit at SF
MOMA. The construction budget for this 40,000 square foot plaza is
approximately $2,000,000. The design soloutions must deal with windy
site conditions that prohibit usefulness of the space. Access for
persons with disabilities, security, public gatherings and safe access
for the nearly 4000 daily employees and vistors must be addressed.
Program requirements will be available after May 6, 1996. Design
Submissions are due August 29, 1996, and must include a non-refundable
$50.00 entry fee. For a complete copy of the free Design Competition
