Contracting Officer. The Western Area Power Administration has a
requirement for the contractor to provide labor, materials, equipment,
and other resources necessary to complete the upgrade of the Denison
Substation, Stage 08, located in Crawford County, Iowa, approximately
2 miles southwest of the town of Denison on U.S. Highway 30. The
principal components of work include: removing concrete foundations;
removing steel structures; removing electrical equipment, clearing and
stripping; excavation for access road; excavation from borrow;
excavation for foundations and trenches; constructing embankments,
backfill, and gravelfill; furnishing and installing corrugated metal
pipe and chain link fence; performing gravel surfacing, riprap,
soil-applied herbicide, and seeding; constructing foundations for steel
structures and electrical equipment; installing cable trench;
fabricating and installing galvanized welded steel structures;
installing Government-furnished power circuit breakers and shunt
reactors; furnishing and installing interrupter switches, surge
arresters, disconnecting switches, combination fuse disconnecting
switches/disconnecting switches with interrupter, insulated conductors
and cables, indoor dc distribution panelboards, and indoor ac
distribution panelboards; furnishing & installing voltage transformers,
current transformers, coupling capacitor voltage transformers, shunt
reactor transient suppressor, neutral grounding transformers, and
neutral grounding resistors; furnishing & installing station service
transformer with transfer switch and two indoor station service ac
distribution panelboards; and remodeling existing service building
including installing HVAC systems. The period of performance is 240
calendar days. The estimated order of magnitude of this project is
between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000. The solicitation will be issued on
an unrestricted basis on or about May 30, 1996, with bids due on or
about June 27, 1996. All requests for the solicitation must be in

275-1515. Note: A limited number of copies of the solicitation will be
available to those requesting on a first-come first-serve basis.
