58 -- AMEND SYNOPSIS FOR DT-574 HYDROPHONE ACQUISITION FOR TRIDENT BOW ARRAY POC Contact Carol Gorman, Contracting Officer at (860) 440-6155 On 26 December 1995, the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Detachment New London advertised a sole source acquisition from International Transducer Corporation of Santa Barbara, California for a base year quantity of 2,584 DT-574 hydrophones and two option quantities of 1000 DT-574 hydrophones each. Based on current need and cost effectiveness, the Government intends to purchase the first planned option of 1000 units with the base year quantity of 2584 units and still retain two option quantities of 1000 units each. These hydrophones are replacement components of the sonar system used on Trident class submarines, and are critical to the effectiveness and safety of these submarines. They are purchased on a sole source basis due to procurement history, cost, and timeliness. Any other manufacturer would stand significant cost and risk to meet the Navy's requirements. The stock system is critically low; the Government requires a ship set of 2296 units plus a year's supply of about 2800 units in the stock system as soon as possible. See Numbered Note 22. (0127)
