19 -- CONSTRUCTION OF STEEL DECK CARGO BARGES SOL DACW61-96-B-0038. Due 062596. Contact Point, Contract Specialist, William A Bailey, 215/656-6932. Construct, test and deliver several steel deck cargo barges for use in the support of the Maintenance and Repair mission of the Rock Island District. The principal characteristics of the vessels are approximately 150-feet long, 35-feet wide, and range in depth from 6 to 8-feet deep. The first set of barges will include spuds/spudwells and will be used to transport general cargo. The second set of barges will incorporate a heavier structure for the anticipated transportation of rock. The solicitation will contain an option to construct additional barge(s). The resultant contract will be based upon an ``As-Built Design'' of similar vessels and will utilize the Marine Design Center three phase contracting process. The applicable SIC Code is 3731 and the size standard is 1000. Liquidated damages will apply and be stated in the solicitation. A bid guarantee with performance and payment bonds will be required. The magnitude of effort is estimated at $1,000,000.00 to $5,000,000.00. The solicitation will issue on (or about) May 17, 1996 and open on (or about) June 18, 1996.
